SUMMARY:Uncovering the mysteries of Leach's Storm-petrels by Connie Tremlett
DESCRIPTION:Connie Tremlett will speak on the work she is doing with Mark Bolton for the RSPB. Mark Bolton is a Principal Conservation Scientist for the RSPB\, renowned for his pioneering research on UK seabirds\, including Leach’s Storm-petrels. \nTheir work has fundamentally shifted the understanding of these elusive birds through       groundbreaking tracking and monitoring projects. \nConnie says\, ‘Leach’s Storm-petrel is one of the UK’s most mysterious seabirds\, breeding on just a handful of remote Scottish islands. Their cryptic behaviour makes them challenging to study\, but alarming population declines are becoming increasingly apparent\, and the species is now considered globally threatened. The causes of these declines remain poorly understood\, but are likely to be multi-faceted. In this talk\, I will describe work undertaken by RSPB to address critical gaps in our knowledge of Leach’s Storm-petrels\, through developing novel acoustic monitoring approaches and undertaking tracking studies\, to better inform potential conservation action.’
