Amazingly, the wild and windswept Northeast coast is a winter home and vital service station for many bird species that breed in the far northern climes. Much of the rocky, muddy and sandy shore coastline is designated as an internationally important area for these wonderful wintering and migrating birds. Waders and wildfowl are in abundance; a rich mosaic of species is to be found along this stretch of wonderful coastline and this presentation will attempt to ‘peel back’ some of the layers and reveal migrations, adaptations and vulnerability of birds that live on the edge.

Born and raised Northumbrian, Tom Cadwallender is currently a freelance ornithologist, bird tour guide, Vlogger, broadcaster, lecturer, traveller and most importantly a Birdwatcher. Tom has been studying waders and seabirds for five decades and has a rich in-depth knowledge of many, especially the Roseate Tern. A British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) diehard who enjoys nothing more than counting birds for conservation and fun, and who enjoys spreading the ornithological word to anyone who will listen.
