Goldcliff and Newport wetlands

After driving there in rain and at first seeing nothing much the sun broke through and we had an amazing morning’s birdwatching. The most exciting spot was a juvenile peregrine which obliged by flying back and forth in front of us. Fifty species seen.

Any cobwebs were blown away when we ventured onto the sea wall. The wind was so strong we couldn’t hold our binoculars steady.

We are looking forward to seeing more club members at our first talk of the season, Europe’s Best Birding by local man Tom Mabbett.
